It was a cold day in Washington, D.C. for Joe Biden’s inauguration this past January. Senator Bernie Sanders showed up with his now famous mittens gifted to him by teacher Jen Ellis from Vermont. Brendan Smialowski is a staff photographer for Agence France-Presse. He captured the iconic image of Bernie that has now traveled around the internet and the world in various forms.
